Sustainability
Making healthy and conscious choices part of everyday life
At Ingka Centres, we share the IKEA vision to create a better everyday life for the many people. Together with IKEA and our partners, we work to bring this vision to life through our meeting places – places where people can come together and take part in community life.
We are taking practical steps across our operations to use resources more efficiently and create more opportunities for circular and healthy choices. This includes measures to improve energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energy, and support repair and reuse activities. We also create spaces and opportunities for people to connect, learn and share ideas.
Our focus is on practical experiences that can inspire people in their everyday lives.
Our approach
Our sustainability work focuses on three areas that guide how we develop and operate our meeting places.
1. Inspiring and enabling healthier and conscious everyday choices
We create opportunities to explore, repair reuse and other circular practices as well as healthy choices through the services, experiences and partnerships found across our meeting places.
From repair and reuse initiatives to plant-forward food offers and circular concepts, we give visitors the opportunity to discover practical ways to extend the use of products and resources and make healthy and conscious choices easier in everyday life.
2. Taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Across our portfolio, we are taking practical steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our operations. These include improving energy efficiency, managing resources responsibly and increasing the use of renewable electricity and renewable heating and cooling. We also support lower-emission ways of travelling to our meeting places, including EV charging and access to public transport, walking and cycling where relevant to the location.
3. Being fair and equal
We want our meeting places to be welcoming, accessible and relevant to the many people. Through local partnerships, services and programmes, we support participation, skills development and opportunities for people who may face barriers in everyday life. This includes how we work with co-workers, partners and suppliers, as well as how we create access, participation and opportunity locally.
Our aim is to create spaces and opportunities for people to take part in community life, to connect and learn together.
Sustainability is not something we work on alone
Continuing the work
We take a long-term approach to how we develop and operate our meeting places.
This includes ongoing work to improve energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energy, develop repair and reuse initiatives, and create welcoming and accessible meeting places. We will continue to report on our progress, including relevant results and challenges.
